KL Rahul is currently busy playing for team India in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Australia. He played a gem of a knock in the first match as his 75*-run knock helped the Men in Blue to win the match. Now, the West Indies veteran batter, Chris Gayle came up with a huge statement regarding Rahul.
In a recent interaction with Jio Cinema, Gayle said that his record-breaking knock of 175* runs against the Pune franchise is his most unforgettable knock in the Indian T20 League. He said: “I have to say the 175, given the fact it is a record. Getting the fastest hundred off 30 deliveries was fantastic. That will always stand out. So that’s number 1.”
Chris Gayle picks KL Rahul to break the record of 175 runs in the history of the Indian T20 League
During the same interaction, Gayle said that KL Rahul can break the record of 175* runs in the Indian T20 League. Speaking of that knock, it came in the 31st match of the 2013 edition of the Indian T20 League. Gayle scored 175* runs off 66 balls for the Bangalore franchise against Pune at Chinnaswamy stadium. Still, now, it is the highest individual score from any batter in the history of the tournament. On the other hand, KL Rahul has been a great batter in this tournament also.
Rahul is currently the skipper of the Lucknow franchise. In the last season in 2022, his team lost the eliminator against Bangalore. Speaking of his career, he has played 109 matches so far and scored 3889 runs, including four centuries and 31 fifties. In the last season, he scored 616 runs and became the first Indian player to score 600+ runs in three consecutive seasons (2022, 2021, and 2020). He also became the second player after Chris Gayle to score at least 600 runs in three consecutive seasons. Even, in the last five seasons, Rahul crossed more than 500 run-mark every time in the tournament. But, his strike rate has been a concern always and he has been criticised for having a career strike rate of 136.22.
