Roger Federer, the Swiss legend, announced his retirement from Tennis on Thursday (September 15). Needless to say, the entire sporting fraternity was disappointed with the decision and came up with tributes for the stunning player. The legendary tennis star is all set to make way for the younger generation after the Laver Cup.
The cricketing fraternity came forward to pour in their wishes and tributes for the player and his stellar career in the sport of Tennis. The legendary player bagged as many as 103 ATP titles in his entire career spanning more than a decade.
“To my tennis family and beyond, Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I have met along the way: my friends, my competitors, and most of all the fans who give the sport its life. Today, I want to share some news with all of you,” Federer said in his statement.
I want to thank you all: Roger Federer
Not many could actually digest the fact that the legendary tennis star won’t be holding the racket again. Throughout day and night, fans have been glued to the television just to watch the two legendary legs move. The thoughts and skills put behind each service, and the ambition to win the titles will be cherished. Their passion for the game remained unmatched although he went through tough times.
After leaving a legacy that one could not even dream of, the player silently signed off by thanking all his fans. The 41-year-old walked away after penning an emotional statement thanking all those who stood by him throughout his career.
“So, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart, to everyone around the world who has helped make the dreams of a young Swiss ball kid come true. Finally, to the game of tennis: I love you and will never leave you,” Roger Federer signed off.
It is a difficult moment for the fans to think that there will not be another Roger Federer. It might hurt to even think that the Swiss legend has walked away. The ace tennis star won’t address the crowd after winning the title yet again albeit the Laver Cup might be his last chance. All said and done, the tennis world is entering a new era.
