From winning back-to-back World Cups to contesting in the qualifiers, Cricket in West Indies is taking a sad turn. Something similar was on-display in the ODI World Cup 2023 qualifier game of the super six stages between West Indies and Scotland. West Indies have had a mixed campaign in the group stages finishing at just the third position in their group behind hosts Zimbabwe and the Netherlands.
The Windies faced Scotland in their first game of the super six stages. They had to endure yet another low day in Cricket as they were bowled out for 181 in 43.5 overs by the Scottish bowling attack. Opener Johnson Charles and top order batter Sharmarh Brooks both recorded ducks. Thanks to a handy partnership between Jason Holder (45 off 79) and Romario Shephard (36 off 43), the Windies were saved from further embarrassment.
Talking about Scotland’s bowling, Brandon McMullen remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/32 in nine overs. Chris Sole, Mark Watt, and Chris Greaves picked two wickets each while the remaining one went to Safyaan Sharif. McMullen cleaned the West Indies' top order while Sharif scalped the skipper, Shai Hope.
West Indies are set to host India for a multi-format tour starting in July
The ongoing qualifiers for the ODI World Cup 2023 are scheduled to end on July 9. Following this, the Windies will clash against India as they host them in a tri-format tour. The tour includes two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. While the tour kicks off with the first Test on July 12, a few T20Is will also take place in Florida making it a tour of the West Indies and the USA for the Indian Team.
Recently, West Indies announced their preparatory squad for the upcoming Tests against India. This would be the first bilateral Test series for both teams in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
Here is the announced 18-member squad: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Alick Athanaze, Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva, Shannon Gabriel, Kavem Hodge, Akeem Jordan, Jair McAllister, Kirk McKenzie, Marquino Mindley, Anderson Phillip, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Jomel Warrican.

A superb performance by @CricketScotland to limit the star studded WI to a par below score.
