Lancashire’s men’s and women’s team is in Dubai for pre-season preparations. The club played a T20 doubleheader against UAE. The matches saw a new method for the toss instead of the traditional coin flip. Lancashire’s visit to Dubai as a part of their pre-season preparations is engineered by the fact the team is sponsored by Emirates, a state-owned Dubai-based airline.

As a part of their preparations, both the men’s and women’s teams were seen playing T20 matches against UAE at the Sevens Stadium. The matches saw an innovative and new method of toss, which was a tribute to recently Late Australian Legend Shane Warne. Instead of having the traditional coin flip, the captains were asked a cricket trivia question.

For the toss of the match between North West Thunder and UAE in the women’s match, the captains were asked about the ICC rating of Australian star player Beth Mooney. Mooney is currently the number one T20I batter with a rating of 724. During the toss, UAE captain Chaya Mughal answered 743 and the North West Thunder’s Skipper Ellie Threlkeld answered 767, thus UAE won the toss and decided to bat first. The match was ultimately won by Thunders.

In the men’s game, the question was the number of wickets Shane Warne has picked up in ODIs. This was one tricky question as most are familiar with Warne’s Test wicket figure of 708, but his ODI wicket tally (293) is not as widely known. While the UAE captain answered 274, the Lancashire Lightning skipper answered 293 stating that he knew the correct answer. Jennings decided to bat first and his team ended up losing the match by five wickets.
