Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadava is enjoying a purple patch with the bat currently in the T20 internationals. The 32-year-old right-hander is looking in excellent form with the bat in the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa. Sky is carrying his sensational touch from the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia.
He smashed 69 runs in the third and final of the three-match series against the Aussies and then scored another consecutive half-century against the Proteas in the first match of the series. Notably, Surya has broken a couple of records with the bat during India’s comfortable win of eight wickets over the visitors.
He came to bat at number four for the men in blue when they were looking in trouble after losing two wickets only on the score of 17 runs. Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 50 runs off 33 balls and also stitched an unbeaten 93-run partnership with the senior opener KL Rahul.
They both helped the Indian team to cross the line in 16.4 overs to win the match and gain the lead of 1-0 in the series.
Becomes the first Indian to score the most runs in a calendar year
During his half-century knock, Yadav went on to beat two records and took himself to the top. Firstly, he became the first batter to score the most sixes in any calendar in the shortest format of the game. With just two sixes, he surpassed the star Pakistani batter Mohammad Rizwan who smashes 42 sixes last year in 2021. Sky took only 21 innings to hit 45 sixes in a calendar year in comparison to the 26 innings of Mohammad Rizwan.
Along with being the sixer king, he has also become the first Indian to score the highest runs in a calendar year. The right-hander surpassed the record of senior southpaw Shikhar Dhawan who notched 689 runs with an average of 40.52 four years back in the year 2018.
Whereas Surya has now scored 732 runs with an average of 40.66 and an amazing strike rate of 180.29 in the ongoing calendar year.
