Suresh Raina in talks with overseas franchises, set to walk away from Indian T20 League: Reports

Dainik Jagran has reported that the Indian veteran Suresh Raina might walk away from the Indian T20 League to play in overseas leagues.

Indian veteran and former cricketer Suresh Raina is known for his performances in the Indian T20 League. He is arguably one of the best players to have played the League. Thus, for the same, he has received appreciation by his fans time and again. But then, in 2020, he returned home all of a sudden leaving his franchise in the United Arab Emirates citing personal reasons.

Albeit he was back in the 2021 edition, he was released and left out in the auction in 2022. For a long time now, fans have opined that the team had backstabbed the player who had done it all for them. Of late, the franchise is not on good terms with Ravindra Jadeja as well. Amid all this, a video of Suresh Raina surfaced on the internet where he was seen practising in the Chennai jersey.

Fans speculated that the southpaw might be back with the team next year. But a piece of news from Dainik Jagran has broken all of his fans’ hearts. Raina was quoted as saying by Dainik Jagran that he had asked for a NOC from the Indian cricket board and the cricket association of Uttar Pradesh.

“I want to continue playing cricket for two or three years. There are some exciting youngsters who are coming through the ranks of Uttar Pradesh cricket. I have already taken my No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). I have informed Indian cricket board secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajiv Shukla about my decision,” Raina was quoted as saying by Dainik Jagran.

The veteran further revealed that he had been approached by franchises across South Africa, Sri Lanka and UAE. Albeit he revealed the information, he admitted that he has not taken any decision on it yet.

“I will play in the Road Safety Series. T20 franchises from South Africa, Sri Lanka and UAE have contacted me but I am yet to take any decision,” Dainik Jagran quoted Raina as saying.
