Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav continues his sensational form with the bat in the second of the three-match T20I series as well. He played a blistering knock of 61 runs off just 22 balls with five boundaries and five sixes to his name. Other than Surya, other Indian batters also performed above the rim to get India to a mammoth score of 236 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Apart from the batting excellence of the Indian batter including the likes of KL Rahul, skipper Rohit Sharma, and former skipper Virat Kohli, the South African batter also provided amazing entertainment to the fans in the penultimate encounter of the series.
Senior proteas batter David Miller smashed a swashbuckling century of 107 runs off just 47 balls was also a defining performance. He could’ve definitely clinched the ‘player of the match award if his side had crossed the line in the end.
While talking about the player of the match, then there were a lot of names in the match who could be awarded. If it is to give to a player on the winning side, Suryakumar Yadav was above everyone to win this prize.
His brilliant knock had completely moved the game in the favor of the hosts. But everyone left surprised when vice-captain KL Rahul was adjudged player of the match. Not only the fans and experts but Rahul himself were in shock. He felt that Surya was a more deserving individual to receive this award as his knock changed the game completely.
Having batted in the middle order, I have realized that it is (equally) difficult - KL Rahul
“I am surprised I am getting the ‘Man of the Match award, Surya should have gotten it. He changed the game,” said Rahul in the post-match presentation.
Followed by KL Rahul’s surprise, Harsha Bhogle, the broadcaster of the moment opened up later that giving the ‘player of the match award to KL Rahul instead of SKY happened because a specific former opener ruled in Rahul’s favor and felt that his job was tougher than Yadav.
“As openers, we would like to think that our job is the most difficult but having batted in the middle order, I have realized that it is (equally) difficult,” Rahul added later in his statement.
