England and India locked horns in the last game of the three-match T20I series at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The home team won the toss and elected to bat first in the game where they were trying to salvage some pride. They had only one big partnership but kept playing in an aggressive fashion.
Skipper, Jos Buttler (18) provided a quick start before being played on against a slower one from Avesh Khan. Jason Roy (26) struggled to score quickly and was caught behind by Rishabh Pant off Umran Malik. Phil Salt (8), playing his first game of the series, was clean bowled by a yorker from Axar Patel. At 84/3, Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone stitched a partnership of 84 runs for the fourth wicket.
Malan scored 77 off 39 balls, including six fours and five sixes, before getting out off Ravi Bishnoi. On the other hand, Livingstone remained unbeaten on 42 off 29 balls, including four sixes. The team amassed a mammoth total of 215/7. In reply, the Rohit Sharma-led side had a poor start. Pant (1) was caught behind by Buttler off Reece Topley.
Virat Kohli (11) started brilliantly but was caught at short cover by Roy off David Willey. Sharma (11), once again, looked good failed to play a big knock. At 31/3, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav stitched a partnership of 119 runs. Iyer played the sheet anchor role while Yadav played his shots. The former was caught behind trying to play a dab shot against Topley.
Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja, debatably, the finishers of the game didn't perform according to the expectations. Karthik (6) who came out after Shreyas' wicket played a few dot balls, scored a boundary and was trapped lbw by Willey. Jadeja (7) hit a six against Richard Gleeson in the 18th over but was trapped lbw on the next ball. Suryakumar Yadav, however, kept the hopes alive with a sensational knock. He amassed 117 off just 55 balls, including 14 fours and 6 sixes.
Suryakumar (117) kept the team in hunt but got out when the team needed 25 runs off seven balls. Once he got out, it was all but over for India. The visitors, eventually, lost the match by 17 runs.
This is a look at some of the reactions from the game:

Dawid Malan's highest T20I score since his 99 not out in Cape Town at the end of 2020

Very important innings for him after a lean run - has taken on his match-up against Jadeja brilliantly (28 runs off 11 balls so far)
Suryakumar Yadav has shown why playing domestic cricket is worth it. Years of grind and hard work made a character and is now a T20I centurion #ENGvIND

21 off 6… tough but not impossible. Though CJ is good in these kind of situations but let’s see. You never know ☺️ #engvind

The way everyone's overhyping DK like he's been an aggressive batsman forever! Good he invented himself as a finisher in IPL, but he would come in btw 12-15 overs, so he would knock around 5 balls before starting to attack. Here he's expected to go from ball 1. Fairly unfair.

Such a travesty that SKY’s dazzling century has to go in vain. There’s a series win to savour though. Lack of runs from Kohli and Iyer is a worry though

Shreyas Iyer had to get out to make his presence felt. #ENGvIND

There should be plenty of debate about India's best T20 team - no debate that Suryakumar Yadav is in it

One of the best t20 ton I've seen. The situation, makes it ridiculous.
