Indian cricketer Mayank Agarwal encountered a serious health emergency while aboard a flight from Agartala to Surat. The captain of the Karnataka Ranji Trophy team was swiftly transported to a hospital and is currently under intensive care. Agarwal is currently leading his state team in the ongoing 2023-24 Ranji Trophy, reportedly experiencing a burning sensation in his mouth and throat, prompting immediate medical attention. He is currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the ILS hospital in Agartala, with reports indicating that the 32-year-old is stable and not in any imminent danger as per media reports.
Agarwal experienced a burning sensation right after consuming liquid from a suspicious bottle, potentially containing a poisonous substance. Additionally, Karnataka's captain, along with team manager Ramesh, were both disembarked from the aircraft. Agarwal led the Karnataka squad in their Ranji Trophy match, securing a 29-run victory over Tripura at the Maharaj Bir Bikram Stadium in Agartala, held from January 26-29. Karnataka's upcoming fixture against Railways is scheduled at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat, starting on Friday (February 2).
Agarwal has been in exceptional form during the current Ranji Trophy season, amassing 460 runs across four matches at an average of 44.28, including two centuries. Notably, he emerged as the highest run-scorer in the previous 2022-23 season of India's top-tier first-class tournament. Karnataka currently holds the second position in Group C of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group, securing 15 points from four matches, with two wins and one loss.

Agarwal boasts a career spanning 21 Test matches for India since his debut in 2018, accumulating 1488 runs at an average of 41.3, including four centuries. The star India batter's most recent appearance for India occurred in a Test match against Sri Lanka in March 2022.
Additionally, he has represented the national team in five ODIs. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Agarwal currently plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2024 season, having joined the team in 2023. Previously, he also captained the Punjab Kings during the 2022 IPL season.
