After winning the recent T20I series against Ireland, South Africa are all set to take on Sri Lanka in a limited overs series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is starting from September 2. All the matches will be played at R Premadasa stadium in Colombo, which also hosted the recent limited-overs series against India.
Initially, South Africa didn’t have any series scheduled during this time, but a late decision by both the boards confirmed the six white-ball matches. The ODIs will be played on September 2, 4, and 7 before the teams lock horns in the T20Is to be played on September 10, 12 and 14. The tour ends just before the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to begin in the UAE on September 19.
“We are delighted to have another tour confirmed for the Proteas men’s team with the ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner,” commented CSA Acting CEO Pholetsi Moseki in an official statement.
This series will be a perfect preparation for both South Africa and Sri Lanka for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. With the global event scheduled in Oman and UAE in October, the teams will be looking to rectify their flaws ahead of the showpiece event.
“Playing against quality opposition in the sub-continent is the best way for our team to prepare for this event and, we are grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket for accommodating us during this time of the year where schedules are highly condensed,” he added.
