The Indian players are currently playing the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. After the conclusion of the tournament, South Africa will tour India for five T20 internationals.
As per recent reports, South Africa’s young batting sensation, Dewald Brevis is tipped to be added to South Africa’s team ahead of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He is likely to be part of South Africa’s squad for the upcoming T20 series against India. Dewald Brevis is currently part of Mumbai’s franchise in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League. The franchise bought his services for a whopping amount of INR 3 crores.
He announced his arrival with a heart-warming knock of 29 runs in 19 balls in his very first game against Kolkata. It was followed by another masterclass knock of 49 runs in 25 balls, which helped the team almost win the game against Kolkata. His 13-ball 31 against Lucknow was also one to savor.
However, after a couple of bad outings, he was recently dropped from the playing XI. After witnessing his batting exploits, South Africa are tipped to be fast-tracking the young batter into the T20 side.
The 19-year-old first made headlines in the Under-19 World Cup 2022. He finished the tournament as the highest run-getter. In 6 matches, Brevis scored 506 runs at an average and a strike rate of 84.33 and 90.20 respectively. He hit two centuries during the tournament. The first one came against Uganda.
Brewis played an outstanding knock of 104 runs and also picked 2 wickets for 18 runs with the balls. His best knock, however, came against Bangladesh. In what was South Africa’s last game, Brevis played a sensational knock of 138 runs in 130 balls, a knock which was studded with 11 fours and 7 sixes. His masterclass knock helped the team win the match by 2 wickets. However, despite his heroics, South Africa couldn’t win the World Cup.
Currently, Brevis has managed to score 124 runs in 6 matches at 20.67 for Mumbai in the Indian T20 League 2022.
