David Miller had a transformational year with the Gujarat-based franchise in the Indian T20 League 2022. The left-hander did not have a good run for the past few seasons, and his performances for the international team were hampered as well.
Batting mostly at number five, he scored 481 with the best average in the competition of 68.71 at a strike rate of 143. Thus, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma is ready to hold talks with the batter to move up the order for the T20 series against India. He usually bats at number six for the Proteas.
"He has performed exceedingly well in Indian T20 League. Whatever feelings of insecurity he had are gone now. We will have a conversation. He is an important member of the team. If he feels he can add more value higher up the order, it is a conversation to have," said Temba Bavuma, as quoted by The West Australian.
South Africa will be looking to solidify their batting order in this series ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia in October. "The important thing is to prepare for the World Cup," Bavuma says. "The guys need to be in a competitive space. And the India series will be an important part of the competitive process, even if the conditions will be different in Australia," Bavuma added.
Bavuma added that, as much as they want to win the series, there will be some rotation to help manage the load.
"We haven't got together as a team but the rest of the (non-Indian T20 League players) have had good sessions. We will arrive a bit early to get familiarised. With multiple formats (this season), it will be important to manage the workload, especially the bowlers," he said.
On June 9th, the five-match T20 series will begin. The first match will be held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, followed by four more at Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Bangalore. The final match will be played on June 19th.
