'So many twists and turns in this' - Gujarat beats Delhi in a low-scoring cliffhanger in Women's T20 League 2023

Gujarat and Delhi locked horns in the 14th game of the ongoing Women's T20 League 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. In the reverse fixture between the two teams, the Indian national capital-based side thrashed Gujarat by 10 wickets. Talking about Gujarat, they had won only one game in the tournament just Bangalore. They were looking to win and also settle the score with Delhi.

Meanwhile, in the game, the Blue Brigade, Delhi won the toss and elected to bowl first. Their skipper at the toss said "New wicket, we'll see how it plays. It's a new game, we played well in our last game and need to reproduce that because they have world-class players."

On the other hand, Orange Army skipper Sneh Rana said "We have a lot of positives in our five games, our bowling and fielding have improved. So have our partnerships with the bat."

With the bat, the Ahmedabad-based side had a poor start as they lost the wicket of Sophie Dunkley (4) in the first over. After this, the likes of Laura Volvaardt (57) and Harleen Deol (31) put together 49 runs for the second wicket. After Deol's wicket, Laura and Ashleigh Gardner (51*) put together 81 runs to take the team to 147/4.

Delhi managed to somehow tank the chase

Even though the team had lost the wicket of Shafali Varma early, the team was going well at 48/1 in 5.1 overs. However, the wicket to Meg Lanning turned the game against Delhi. The team slipped to 100/8 with the middle order and the lower middle order failing to apply themselves.

However, the likes of Arundhati Reddy (25) and Shikha Pandey (8) kept the team in the chase with a partnership of 35 runs. On the last ball of the 18th over, the former got out and it was clear that Delhi will lose it. As it turned, the team was bowled out for 136 runs, losing the game by 11 runs.
