On 20 April 2023, Punjab Kings (PBKS) locked horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL. It was the 27th match of the tournament that took place in Mohali. RCB were coming off after a defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). While PBKS won their last game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

So, the home fans were hoping for another win. However, Shikhar Dhawan did not play the last game and Sam Curran was the skipper. So, all eyes were on Dhawan as to whether he will play or not in this clash. Unfortunately, the star India batter missed the game again and Curran came out for the toss. For RCB also, fans were left surprised to see Virat Kohli as the skipper. 

RCB defeated PBKS by 24 runs in IPL 2023

Faf du Plessis sustained an injury in the ribs in the last game. So, he was on the impact player list only. Curran won the toss and asked RCB to bat first. For RCB, du Plessis and Kohli came out to bat. Both of them scored fifties as the first wicket fell after 137 runs in 16.1 overs. Du Plessis scored 84 runs off 56 balls and Kohli scored 59 runs off 47 balls. Apart from them, other batters struggled to time the ball as RCB scored 174 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. For PBKS, Harpreet Brar took two wickets while both Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis grabbed one wicket each.

For the chase, PBKS batters came out but RCB bowlers were on fire. The home side were in all sorts of trouble after losing seven wickets for 106 runs in 12.5 overs. RCB fielders were on roll also as they managed two direct hits. Hasaranga grabbed two wickets in his four overs. But, it was Mohammed Siraj who stole the show, He picked up four wickets for 21 runs in four overs. Finally, PBKS got bundled out for 150 runs in 18.2 overs and RCB won the match by 24 runs.
