After Pakistan's Asia Cup 2023 exit, it was rumored that the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam had a verbal fight. In the must-win game against Sri Lanka in the Super Four, both teams needed to win to reach the final. After winning the toss, the Green Brigade elected to bat first. Despite it being a rain-curtailed game, the team was happy to do so.
Meanwhile, before the rain break, the two-time winners were reduced to 130/5. After the rain break, the wicket eased out and it led to Pakistan getting 250 runs in 42 overs. The Lankan Lions were asked to chase the same amount of runs as per DLS calculation. In reply, the home side was going well and was looking towards an easy win.
However, the Babar Azam-led side managed to make a comeback but eventually lost the game by two wickets on the last ball. With this, once again the Indo-Pak summit didn't take place in the history of Asia Cups. Meanwhile, after the game, the team saw a heated moment between Azam and Shaheen. The conversation reportedly went as follows.
Babar – Senior players aren’t playing responsibly.
Shaheen – At least appreciate who bowled and batted well.
Babar – I know who’s performing well.
Shaheen Afridi puts rumors to rest
Meanwhile, in a fresh picture posted by the Lahore Qalandars skipper in the PSL, he and Azam can be seen looking at each other with the chess board on a table. This can be seen as a silent message against the rumor spreaders.
