BCCI has announced the Test, ODI and T20I squad of India Women's team for the upcoming tour of England. Shafali Varma, the T20 sensation, has got her maiden call-up for Tests and ODIs. India will be playing its first Test in almost 6-7 years apart from three-match ODI and T20I series. The selectors have announced an 18-member common squad for Tests and ODIs and a separate one for T20Is.
Shikha Pandey and Taniya Bhatia have made their comeback after being dropped for the ODI and T20I series at home against South Africa. Uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Indrani Roy has also made it to both the squads after impressing at the domestic level. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad has missed out as she is yet to recover from COVID-19.
This tour also marks a comeback for Ramesh Powar as India's coach who was sacked after the 2018 Women's T20 World Cup controversially. His infamous fallout with Mithali Raj had led to the same but he will now be replacing WV Raman who has also reporedtly (according to Cricbuzz) has written a mail with strong words to Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid in his scathing assessment.
The one-off Test is set to be played in Bristol from June 16 while the three-match ODI series will begin on June 27. The T20I series will commence on July 9 with the tour concluding on July 15.
