England had 257 runs more to make on the final day of the second test of Ashes 2023 at Lord’s. However, the task looked steep in front of a bowling attack led by the likes of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. England continued from their first innings score of 114/4 at stumps Day 2 and thanks to Ben Duckett and skipper Ben Stokes, the English are still in the running to win the game and level the series.

Notably, Ben Stokes pulled off another signature Bazball move as he hit Cameron Green for three consecutive sixes that helped him bring up his century. The video of the over has gone viral on social media and English fans are going crazy over their skipper’s heroics. English hopes are hanging by a thread and that thread is Ben Stokes.

Australia lead the 5-Test Ashes 2023 series 1-0

As of now, Australia are leading the five-Test Ashes 2023 series by 1-0, thanks to some late heroics from skipper Pat Cummins who took his team over the finish line in the first Test at Edgbaston. However, in the current Test, the English skipper Ben Stokes has his chance at repeating similar heroics and sending a message to his counterpart. As things stand, England are six wickets down and Australia will still be favourites to win the game from here.

More importantly, England’s tail is exposed following wicketkeeper batter Johnny Bairstow’s bizarre runout by his counterpart Alex Carey. England are closing in at Lunch with a score of 243/6. This means they need 128 more runs to win the Test to be scored before stumps today. Ben Stokes 108* (147) and Stuart Broad 1* (10) are holding the ends for England. For the visitors, both skipper Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have scalped two wickets each while Josh Hazlewood has one. The pacers will look to clean their English counterparts as play resumes with the second session after a short break.
