'Sayonara Chennai' - Chennai on verge of group stage exit after seventh loss in 10th game

The 49th game of the Indian T20 league 2022 between Chennai and Bangalore turned out to be a close contest. The hype pertaining to this game well and truly lived up to its reputation. At the end, it was the Faf du Plessis-led side who beat the Chennai-based franchise by 13 runs.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Chennai's bowlers leaked runs with the new ball. Bangalore ended up scoring 57 runs in the first six over. However, Chennai's spinners ensured that things tilted towards their side. Du Plessis was dismissed in the eighth over. Post which, Glenn Maxwell was run out after scoring just three runs.

Virat Kohli's bad form continued as he struggled during his stay at the crease, and struggled to rotate the strike. He had to depart after scoring a 33-ball 30. Bangalore were in a spot of bother before Mahipal Lomror played the rescue act. The youngster scored a brilliant 42 from just 27 balls. During his knock, he struck three fours and two sixes.

A handy 26 by Dinesh Karthik ensured that the Bangalore-based franchise got to a good finish. They scored 173 runs in the first innings, and lost eight wickets in the process. After which, Chennai's opener got their side to a superb start. Devon Conway scored a superb 37-ball 56. While his knock came at a strike rate of 151.25, it consisted of six fours and two sixes.

However, the yellow army kept losing wickets at regular intervals. None of their batters were able to take the onus of taking their side through. Moeen Ali took 27 balls for 34 and threw his wicket at a crucial time. Ravindra Jadeja failed to make a mark as well. Even their skipper Dhoni couldn't pull off any miracle this time around.

At the end, they fell short of their target by 13 runs. As for Bangalore's bowlers, Glenn Maxwell was the surprise package as he took two crucial wickets, and only gave 22 runs in his four overs. Josh Hazlewood was superb as well. He only gave 19 runs in his full quota of four overs, and also picked a wicket. Despite being hit for a few sixes, Harshal Patel picked three wickets. Thus, this is Chennai's seventh loss in 10 games. Several fans took to Twitter to speak about the game.
