Out of favour India batter Prithvi Shaw made a statement with a spectacular innings in the ongoing County One Day Cup in England. Plying his trade for Northamptonshire, Shaw scored a fantastic double hundred in the Group B match against Somerset. He opened the innings for the home team following the skipper’s choice to bat first after winning the toss. He went on to score 244 off 153 balls, including 28 fours and 11 sixes at the strike rate of 159.47. Sam White (54 off 51), Ricardo Vasconcelos (47 off 53) and Emilio Gay (30 off 35) made considerable contributions as Northamptonshire reached 415/8 in 50 overs.

Talking of the bowling for Somerset, Jack Brooks remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/75 in nine overs. Danny Lamb with 2/81 followed him closely. Shoaib Bashir and George Thomas returned with one wicket each. Talking of their run chase, they could only manage 328 runs before being bundled out within 45.1 overs. Andrew Umeed remained the top-scorer for Somerset with 77 off 67, including six fours and three sixes. Skipper Sean Dickson scored a half-century – 52 off 48 while Lewis Goldsworthy (47 off 62) and Curtis Campher (49 off 24) were extremely unlucky to miss out on their hundred.

Talking of Northamptonshire’s bowling, Rob Keogh remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/49. He was followed closely by Tom Taylor with 3/68. Luke Procter recorded figures of 2/65 whereas Simon Kerrigan scalped one. The highlight of the game, however, was Prithvi Shaw’s double century. The batter who had fallen out of favour for his national team and struggled in the IPL, made a great comeback. Moreover, he recently admitted going through mental issues as such, this inning must have been a breath of fresh air for the young batter.

“I've never opened up to anyone. Yes, all the mazaak-masti (fun and games) happens. But personal space used to be personal. I keep talking to my dad. If it's about cricket, I reach out to my coach, Prashant Shetty. I am telling you, nowadays, I have stopped sharing my thoughts with people. I keep it all within,” he revealed in a recent interview with Cricbuzz.
