The 16-man Team India T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka was unveiled by the Indian Cricket Board on Tuesday (December 27). The series will be missed by veteran players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and KL Rahul.

With an eye on the 2024 T20 World Cup, the selectors gave opportunities to a number of promising young people who have already proven themselves in the Indian T20 League. Rohit Sharma won't be playing, so Hardik Pandya will take the team's captaincy.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi took the place of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant in the T20I squad. On the other hand, Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar, two unproven pacers, received their first calls to the national T20 team.

Following impressive performances in 2022, flamboyant middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav will assume the position of vice captain for the upcoming Sri Lanka T20I series. In two series against Ireland and New Zealand in 2022, Hardik Pandya served as the Indian team's captain. He shared the Kiwis series that resulted in a draw and led the team to victory in Ireland.

As for the ODI series, Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped from the side, while Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will return to the team. However, despite Rahul's return to the side, Hardik Pandya has been named the captain of the side.
