Afghanistan are currently in Bangladesh as they will play a three-match ODI series from 5 to 11 July  2023. Before this series, they suffered a mammoth loss of 556 runs in the one-off Test match. Followed by the ODI series, they will play a two-match T20I series also. Meanwhile, Rahmanullah Gurbaz is in the ODI squad for the series. In the Sri Lanka ODI series, he failed to perform and scored only 24 runs in three matches.

He was playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023. However, that stint also did not go well for the wicketkeeper batter as he scored just 227 runs in 11 games, at an average of 20.64 and a strike rate of 133.53. He smashed two fifties only. But, now, ahead of the ODI series against Bangladesh, MS Dhoni sent a signed CSK jersey to him and seeing that image, fans shared their views on social media.

Before the recent IPL, Gurbaz expressed his dream of playing with or against MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers. In a conversation with Hindustan Times, he said: “I had two players in my life I want to play with but unfortunately, I did not play with them. One was AB de Villiers. I was really inspired by him. He was my idol. I followed him a lot from my childhood.” 

“He is retired now but one thing that I hope is possible this year is to play with MS Dhoni, against him and with him but in one game. I hope this dream comes true,” he added. However, his dream of playing against MS Dhoni got fulfilled when KKR took on CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on 14 May. But, he failed miserably by scoring just one run. KKR won that match by six wickets. But, CSK defeated KKR brutally at Eden Gardens, Kolkata earlier in the season.
