After registering a convincing and confident win against New Zealand in the three-match ODI series, Team India crossed swords with visitors in the first of the three-match T20I series. Both teams played this match at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi. The stand-in Indian skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked the Kiwis to bat first.

Batting first, New Zealand managed to put in a total of 176 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs in the first innings. While chasing the target, the men in blue managed to score 155 runs for the loss of nine wickets in overs and lost the match by 21 runs.

The Indian cricket fans also looked disappointed with the performance of the Indian team in the first T20I against Mitchell Santner’s men. They took to Twitter to come up with multiple reactions after India’s first defeat in the last couple of white-ball clashes.

Talking about the entire action of the match, the Kiwi team got quite a bit steady and strong start of 43 runs for the first wicket by Finn Allen and Devon Conway. Senior southpaw Conway played a half-century knock of 52 runs with seven boundaries and a six to his name. Following Conway, Daryl Mitchell also smashed a blistering 59 runs off just 30 balls with 3 boundaries and 5 sixes on his credit. On the back of these knocks, New Zealand scored 176 runs for the loss of six wickets in the first innings.

Washington Sundar impressed everyone with his amazing bowling performance as he scalped two wickets by conceding only 22 runs in his quota of four overs. Other than him, Arshdeep, Kuldeep, and Shivam Mavi also claimed a scalp each.

While chasing the target of 177 runs, the Indian batting lineup failed to survive against the Kiwi bowling attack they lost five wickets only on scoring 89 runs in 12.2 overs. Although Washington Sundar tried very hard to put his all efforts to cross the line for his team. But unfortunately, his all-around performance both with the bat and ball went in vain as India lost the match by 21 runs.

Subsequently, New Zealand has also taken the lead of 1-0 in the three-match T20I series against Hardik Pandya’s men. Now, both teams will lock horns in the second of the three-match T20I series at the AB Vajpeyi Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
