On 19 May 2023, the stage was set in Dharamsala for the 66th clash of the ongoing IPL. Punjab Kings (PBKS) took on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing tournament. In the reverse fixture, PBKS defeated RR in Guwahati. So, PBKS were looking for a double over RR while RR were looking to avoid a defeat this time around.

Before this clash, RR were in sixth place with 12 points in 13 games. While PBKS were in the eighth spot with 12 points in 13 games. However, both teams were looking for a win to give themselves a chance to remain alive in the race for the playoffs. Speaking of the match, RR won the toss and asked PBKS to bat first.

However, PBKS batters had a terrible start to the innings as they were struggling at 50 runs for four wickets in 6.3 overs. Dhawan scored 17 runs off 12 balls while Athrava Taide and Liam Livingstone scored 19 runs off 12 balls and nine runs off 13 balls respectively. After that, Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma stitched a 64-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Jitesh scored 44 runs off 28 balls while Curran smashed 49* runs off 31 balls. Shahrukh Khan also played a cameo of 41* runs off 23 balls, including four fours and two sixes. He put up a partnership of 73* runs for the sixth wicket. Thus, PBKS scored 187 runs for five wickets in 20 overs.

For RR, Navdeep Saini was the star of the show as he took three wickets. Along with him, Trent Boult and Adam Zampa grabbed one wicket each. Then, Jos Buttler scored a duck and surprisingly, Devdutt Padikkal came at number three. After that, Padikkal and Jaiswal put up a 73-run partnership for the second wicket. Padikkal scored 51 runs off 30 balls, including five fours and three sixes. Samson failed cheaply as he scored two runs off three balls. After that, Jaiswal scored 50 runs off 36 balls. Then, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Shimron Hetmyer’s contributions helped RR to chase down the target in 19.4 overs with four wickets in the bag.
