The second Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 series is being played at the Lord’s in London between England and Australia. After a nail-biting first Test in which the Kangaroos had the last laugh, the English team are hoping to make a comeback in the series by defeating the Australian team in the 2nd match.

Meanwhile, on the Day 2 of the 2nd Test, Australia’s vice-captain Steve Smith took an important catch of former England skipper and the no. 1 ranked Test batter Joe Root. However, the catch sparked controversy as from some angles, it looked like the ball had slight contact with the ground. But, in the end, the decision went in the visitor’s favour after which many fans took to social media and started trolling the Australian team and alleged them of cheating.

Talking about the match, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to field first. They were hoping to restrict the Kangaroos to a small total. But, Smith smashed a brilliant century and helped his team to achieve a brilliant total of 416 runs in the first innings. He scored 110 runs which included 15 fours.

The right-hander was well supported by Travis Head who played with an aggressive stance and smashed 77 runs off just 73 deliveries. Head stitched an outstanding partnership of 118 runs with Smith for the 4th wicket. For England, speedster Josh Tongue, who was playing his just 2nd Test, was very impressive. Tongue picked 3 important wickets which included David Warner, Usman Khawaja and Smith.

Coming to bat, England once again batted with their popular ‘Bazball’ philosophy and the openers stitched a cracking 91-run stand for the first wicket. The English side has already scored 278 runs after losing 4 wickets at the end of the 2nd day. Harry Brook and Stokes will come to bat on the 3rd day and will aim to get a massive lead over the Australian side. However, it won’t be easy for them as the Australian pacer might pick up some early wickets.
