Afridi said: "Every Prime Minister in Pakistan wants to have good relations with India. I request PM Modi to let us have cricket with India, let both teams and players enjoy cricket. Fans in both nations want to watch India vs Pakistan matches." Listening to that, fans were not happy and they claimed that India do not want to play cricket with Pakistan.

“So threats should not ruin our relationship. Threats will remain.” - Shahid Afridi

Recently, controversy arose when India denied visiting Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup 2023. They claimed that all matches will be played in a neutral venue due to the political tension between the two countries. However, all players from both the current and older generations of the two countries have always been found happy and with all smiles while meeting each other on or off the field. Shahid Afridi also met with former team India players in the recently concluded LLC Masters. But, the former Pakistan skipper always gets in the headlines by making comments about Kashmir issues and other political news.

During the same interview, Shahid Afridi said: “Aap Indian team ko bheje toh sahi, humlog sar aankhon par rakhenge (You just send the Indian team to Pakistan and we will welcome them with great pleasure). Before this, an Indian from Mumbai, won't take his name, had threatened Pakistan that they won't be allowed in India. But we kept all aside and our government had taken it up as a responsibility and Pakistan team did go to India. So threats should not ruin our relationship. Threats will remain.”

Here is how fans have slammed Afridi for such comments on the social media platform:
