Rohit Sharma pens down heartfelt message for Mumbai fans after eighth consecutive defeat

Mumbai team skipper Rohit Sharma, took to Twitter to express what he felt about their performance in Indian T20 League 2022.

The five-time champions, Mumbai, have been struggling to find their first win of the 15th season of the Indian T20 League. On Sunday, they lost to Lucknow by a margin of 36 runs to take their tally to eight losses in a row. This defeat broke the unwanted record of the worst start in the history of the tournament.

On the following day, team skipper Rohit Sharma, took to Twitter to express what he felt about this season. The veteran cricketer agreed that the team was not doing well, but said that every player suffers through a slump at some point. He also thanked the loyal fans who stuck through these critical times.

"We haven’t put our best foot forward in this tournament but that happens, many sporting giants have gone through this phase but I love this team and its environment. Also want to appreciate our well wishers who’ve shown faith and undying loyalty to this team so far," the tweet read.

Mumbai team's official Twitter handle replied, "Stronger Together".

Coming back to the match, Lucknow set a target of 169 runs for Mumbai, with KL Rahul scoring his second century of the season. In response, Mumbai put in a poor performance with the bat as they were restricted to 132 for eight. With his 39 runs in 31 balls, Rohit Sharma showed signs of regaining his form, but he was unable to convert it into a bigger inning.

Meanwhile, Mahela Jayawardene, the team's head coach, also had something to say. "Batting has been a concern for us, especially on good wickets where we have batted under par. This is a senior group that understands the conditions and performed in the past. We need to keep pushing and if we need to make those changes we will do that," India Today quoted him saying.
