To add further misery, skipper Rohit Sharma has been fined INR 24 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate in the last game against Punjab. Also, the rest of the members of the playing XI were also slapped with a fine of INR 6 lakhs or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.

“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Punjab Kings at the MCA Stadium, Pune on April 13,” Indian T20 League said in a release.

“This was the team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses. Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma was fined ₹24 lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined ₹6 lakhs or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lower,” it further added.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was also fined INR 12 lakhs for the same offense against Delhi. And, if he repeats a similar offense one more time, then he would be fined INR 30 lakhs and will be handed a one-match suspension.

Nothing seems to be working for Mumbai in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. In their last game, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, once again, the bowlers failed to deliver and put in notable performances. Their pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah fought hard with the ball but he lacked support from the other end. And, as a result of that, Punjab managed to score a huge 198-run total in the first innings.

In pursuit of the score, Mumbai didn’t make a great start with the bat. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan got out early. However, Dewald Brevis (49 off 25) and Tilak Varma (36 off 20) steadied the ship and kept the hopes alive. Later, Suryakumar Yadav also played a vital 30-ball 43-run knock. However, once he got out, it was all but over for Mumbai. The Rohit-led side eventually fell 12 runs short of the target. Rohit Sharma and Co. are slated to play their next game against Lucknow on Saturday at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
