Pant has been duped of Rs 1.63 crore
In a surprising change of events, it was recently disclosed that Pant had fallen victim to a staggering scam of Rs 1.63 crore dupe by a former under-19 player. The 25-year-old offender, Mrinank Singh was arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday, leaving many in a state of disbelief.
The India wicketkeeper batter ventured into a new business involving luxury goods and became entangled in a fraudulent scheme. According to Eklavya Dwivedi, Pant's lawyer as revealed in a Sports Tak interview, the wicketkeeper-batter had embarked on a business centered around acquiring high-end products at reasonable prices. Little did he know that this decision would result in a substantial financial setback.
"Singh was entrusted with procuring expensive watches and jewellery for Pant. However, he failed to deliver the promised products, prompting Pant to issue a legal notice demanding the owed Rs 1.63 crore," stated Dwivedi.
A few days back, Singh even presented Pant with a cheque for the agreed-upon amount to clear the debt. Regrettably, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds, placing Pant at a disadvantage. Despite Singh's repeated assurances to settle the outstanding dues, none materialized, prompting Pant to file a formal complaint against him. The situation took a serious turn on Monday when Singh was apprehended at Delhi airport while attempting to flee to Hong Kong. In a peculiar turn of events, he attempted to impersonate a senior Karnataka police officer, Alok Kumar seeking assistance from immigration officials.
