The Indian Cricket Board on Saturday posted a video of the team’s first training session after landing in Australia. In the video, the players can be seen in a warm-up at the WACA, Perth. The video also contained a brief interview with the lead strength and conditioning coach of the Men in Blue, Soham Desai.

However, out of all the players who featured in the video, Rishabh Pant caught the attention of the fans for being out of shape. While fans were happy to see the smiling faces of the Indian cricketers who were bonding with each other over a light training session, they were also worried about Pant’s fitness levels ahead of the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

The ‘Men in Blue’ landed in Australia earlier this week and have already had a couple of practice sessions to get accustomed to the conditions Down Under.

The third T20I match between India and South Africa which took place on October 4, 2022, was the only game in the shortest format since September 8 where Pant got the opportunity to bat.

Although the southpaw struck 27 runs off 14 deliveries as the opening batter, playing such few games ahead of the World Cup is also a cause of concern for him.

Meanwhile, Strength and conditioning coach Desai explained how Team India has always rushed into major tournaments simply because Indian players never have the time to recover between series as they have to play one big team after another.

He also explained how getting these extra days of gradually building up the team’s physical and mental condition ahead of the mega tournament will help them function a lot better this time around. compared to some of the other tournaments in the recent past such as the T20 World Cup 2021 and Asia Cup 2022.

Rohit Sharma and Co will also get to play two warm-up matches against strong competitors later this month.  They will take on the hosts Australia on October 17, followed by a clash against New Zealand on October 19.

The Men in Blue will also start their 20-20 World Cup 2022 campaign with a battle against Babar Azam’s Pakistan on October 23 at the iconic MCG stadium.
