Kohli faced the first ball and took a single. Then, Jaiswal faced three consecutive deliveries and on the fifth delivery, he took a single. During that single, it seemed that the bowler was blocking the path for the debutant and that did not go well with Jaiswal. However, he seemed to have reacted in the heat of the moment but it left Kohli very surprised. Speaking of the match, after two days of play, the Men in Blue are clearly in the driving position. They gained a lead of 162 runs with eight more wickets to spare. Kohli remained not out on 36 runs while Jaiswal also managed 143* runs by the end of day two’s play.

Rohit Sharma also scored 103 runs and put up a mammoth 229-run opening partnership with Jaiswal. For the third wicket, Kohli and Jaiswal put up an unbeaten partnership of 72 runs. After the end of the play, in a video shared by the Indian Cricket Board, Jaiswal said: "I think this is one of the emotional knock for me, it's difficult to get opportunities in the Indian team, I would like to thank everyone, the supporters, team management and Rohit bhai. I love Test cricket, I like this challenge, I enjoy the situation when the ball swings and seams. Was an emotional moment (to hit a century), was just proud of myself, thankful for everyone, this is just a start and I want to do well going further."
