Sometimes the ‘apple of eyes’ also turns to get neglected, a similar has happened with the England Test skipper Ben Stokes. The guy who has a very good fan following among Indian cricket fans is now on the receiving end of the angst and criticism from the Indian fans themselves. It all happened when Stokes happened to jump into the debate that started after ‘mankading’ row in the last match of the three-match ODI series between India women and England women.
Just a day after Harsha Bhogle’s hard-lined message on the attitude of the English media towards Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma for the incident that happened at the Lord’s, Stokes came up with a complaining message on Bhogle’s take about the English culture and the way media is treating Deepti.
The response from Stokes didn’t go down well with the Indian cricket fans and they took no time in lashing out at the veteran all-rounder. While standing with Harsha’s statement, Indian fans took to Twitter for teaching a lesson to the 31-year-old about the rules.
Notably, the fans went on to recall him to the incident that happened in the final of the 2019 ODI World Cup. Fans also slammed Stokes by saying that if he is so concerned about the spirit of the game then why he couldn’t give up those four runs awarded to him when an accidental deflection turned into a boundary?
Here's the response of Ben Stokes on Harsha Bhogle's thread:
Harsha … bringing culture into peoples opinion over a Mankad? https://t.co/QNyY8K59kP

Here’s how fans reacted to Ben Stokes’ comment:
Read new ICC rules man, It is Proper RUN-OUT not a mankad. https://t.co/eWzymWCUcu

Who'll tell this guy that referring to a legitimate form of run out (unfair play) as 'Mankad' itself is a cultural thing!

This is because that's how it is being told to budding cricketers there from the early days, insinuating that it is wrong, despite being perfectly legal! https://t.co/EgCTqmOiPk
Well said Harsha 👏👏 Ben chill mate, rules are rules so no hard feelings @benstokes38 https://t.co/7o8xAXGz56

You must have shown courage and given up those runs which gave a victory in World Cup.
— manish (@manishkdca) October 2, 2022
That was also against the game spirit.
But you were blind and wanted to lift World Cup anyhow.
Simple. Kiwis were winner https://t.co/U3JXm40IRW
Stop crying Ben..why didnt you ask umpire i will not take those 4 runs in world cup final. Basically morality and spirit of the game is whatever suits the English.. #Hypocrite https://t.co/BgUlkjazaR pic.twitter.com/FRjhHyGtMQ

Earlier, the veteran cricket pundit from India, Harsha Bhogle didn’t hold back when he explained the Englishmen’s tendency to demean anything and everything that doesn’t suit their psyche and comfort zone.
Bhogle also went on to say that if Charlie Dean had played there in the middle according to the rules and laws of the cricket, then it wouldn’t have given any chance to Sharma to opt for what she ended up doing.
