It was during the 2019 edition where the offie had controversially dismissed him. He had mankaded Buttler, which led to contrasting opinions by serval analysts and experts. While some felt that Ashwin was well within the rules and did no wrong, others perceived his act to be "against the spirit of the game".

Besides, Buttler himself was seemingly disappointed with it back then as well. Moreover, he had scored a half-century in that game and was looking really good. Ashwin recently went on to draw light on the same. Although he doesn't regret mankading Buttler, the spinner stated that he does understand the point of view of the Englishman. He said that Buttler was really upset with him.

“When the incident happened, I think it was Jos who felt deflated about it and quite upset. Rightly so, because it’s not accepted practice. It’s not something that happens day in and day out. I can totally understand that. We'll have to wait and watch. But the pace at which the game is going, the professionals are evolving and how the players are perceiving the game, I just hope and wish that it is looked upon as a legitimate form of dismissal. But whether somebody chooses to do it, or not to do it, is entirely up to them and it's not a question of character assassination," said Ravichandran Ashwin, while speaking to The Times of India.

Besides, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) legitimized the "Mankading" rule not too long ago. In the meanwhile, Buttler also stated that he doesn't hold any grudges against Ashwin. The aggressive batter expressed his excitement over playing alongside the Indian bowler.

"I am not someone holding grudges. I'm excited for the season ahead. I'm excited to have Ash on my team. He is someone who wants to win. And I want to play with the best players. One of the great things that the ITL has brought to cricket is lots of people mixing with each other from different countries and sharing different ideas and beliefs," said Jos Buttler.
