In the recently concluded release and retention process ahead of the mini-auction for the Chennai franchise went on to retain their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for the next season of the Indian T20 League. This decision has also put an end to the rumors between the Indian cricketer and the multi-time Indian T20 League champion Chennai.
Responding to this, former Chennai player and senior Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has talked about the reason why Chennai may have given it a think to sell off the 33-year-old ahead of the next season.
“Although CSK would have saved 16 crores by releasing Jadeja, he claimed that given his all-around skills, it would have been impossible to find a replacement,” said Ashwin in a YouTube video.
How strong were they going to make that team if they traded him to them - Ravichandran Ashwin
“It's one thing if a player like him leaves your team. If you sell him off, you might earn 16 crores for CSK. But how were they going to find a replacement for a player who was Indian? Second, how strong were they going to make that team if they traded him to them?” he added later.
Later on, the veteran all-rounder also added about the impact of Ravindra Jadeja’s trade or transfer in any other squad.
“Giving Jadeja to a different squad would have made that group much stronger heading into the auction,” said Ashwin.
Notably, Jadeja was appointed as the skipper of Chennai before the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League after MS Dhoni stepped down from the duties of captaincy. But the team couldn’t achieve the desired success in the tournament losing six out of eight matches under Jadeja’s captaincy. Subsequently, he handed over the captaincy again to MS Dhoni.
Speaking of the international appearances of Ravindra Jadeja, he was ruled out midway of the Asia Cup 2022. Later on, he was also ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Now, he might be seen in action during the next season of the Indian T20 League in yellow colors.
