India's opening batter Shubman Gill seemed to have been batting on a different surface in the ongoing game against Bangladesh. As it was a dead rubber of the Asia Cup 2023, the Men In Blue won the toss and bowled first. After all, they have already qualified for the final. On the other hand, the Tigers have been ruled out and are playing for pride.
Meanwhile, in the game, the seven-time winners made five changes in the playing XI. The likes of Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah etc were rested for the game.
India playing XI: 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 Shubman Gill, 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Tilak Varma, 5 KL Rahul (wk), 5 Ishan Kishan, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Axar Patel, 9 Shardul Thakur, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Prasidh Krishna
Meanwhile, after losing four wickets for 59 runs, the three-time finalists managed to recover. The likes of skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy put together 101 runs. The latter scored 54 off 81 runs while Hasan amassed 80 off 85 balls. After their partnership was broken, the team lost seven wickets for 193 runs.
However, the likes of Nasum Ahmad (44), Mahedi Hasan (29), and Tanzim Hasan (14*) helped the team reach a fighting total of 265/8. For India, Shardul Thakur took three, Mohammed Shami took two while Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja took one each.
Shubman Gill has kept India in the game
In reply, the former champions had a poor start as they lost two wickets for 17 runs. Skipper Sharma bagged a silver duck while ODI debutant, Tilak Varma (5) failed to make an impact. While Gill continues to apply himself, the other batters have failed to reach the 30-run mark.
At the time of writing, the right-hander is batting at 113 runs. On the other hand, India is at 199/6, needing 67 runs off 47 balls. Gill has kept the hopes alive for the team to win the game going into the summit clash against Sri Lanka on September 17. It will be interesting to see how India chases the target

HUNDRED FOR SHUBMAN GILL...!!
What a remarkable knock, with no support from the other end, Gill has played his innings of life in a tough pitch against Bangladesh spinners. pic.twitter.com/Fn8kWoPyT9

Class & elegance personified! Brilliant 💯 vs Bangladesh in conditions not easy to score vs Spin.
Highlight of his 100 was that inside-out shot over deep extra cover on very experienced Shakib’s classic left armer delivery.
I hope Shubman Gill make the most of this and see… pic.twitter.com/C2u4YFu9sA

Shubman Gill is a generational talent. Expect him to smash the record books in the coming years. Currently the only batter in ODIs with an average of 60plus and a strike-rate of 100plus. Early days but still some record!
