Shubman Gill has been one of the most consistent players for team India when it comes to scoring runs across any format in recent months. In the last Test series in Bangladesh, he scored his maiden Test ton. Then, he scored a century and a double century in the ODI format. He continued his purple patch of runs in the shortest format of the game also.

In a home T20I series, Gill scored his maiden ton. So, fans were happy to see him in the squad for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But, team India showed faith in KL Rahul as an opener rather them including him in the playing XI. Even, many former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev also claimed that Shubman Gill should get a chance ahead of Rahul.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul had two forgettable matches in the series as he scored only 38 runs in three innings. So, all eyes were on Rohit Sharma and the team management whether they continue with Rahul for the last two matches or not. However, they finally decided to give Shubman Gill a chance ahead of Rahul. In the third Test, all Indian batters failed to score against the Aussies spinners. Gill was not an exception also as he scored just 26 runs in that match. So, fans were expecting a better show from the young batter in Ahmedabad.

However, Gill did not disappoint his fans as he scored 128 runs off 235 balls, including 12 fours and one six. He notched up his second Test ton with some delightful shots and it was his first Test hundred on home soil. His innings gave a solid foundation to the Men in Blue as they are looking to take lead against the Australia’s mammoth total of 480 runs. After his knock, fans hailed him and started to troll KL Rahul as his career might be finished in this format.
