The young Wellington batter Rachin Ravindra emerged as a hero of New Zealand’s massive win by 281-run win in the first Test of the two-match series against South Africa. Rachin smashed an amazing double-century in the first innings to help New Zealand post a mammoth total of 511 runs.
He also scalped two wickets with the ball at the cost of 16 runs in the first innings when NZ bundled out the Proteas just at the score of 162 runs in 72.5 overs. Apart from this, Rachin Ravindra stitched a remarkable partnership of 232 runs for the third wicket in the first innings.
"Any time you contribute to the win it makes you feel special" - Rachin Ravindra
Meanwhile, Rachin Ravindra also made it to the headlines for his statement after getting the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-defining knock in New Zealand’s favour. The 24-year-old came up with a very blunt reply when he was asked if he wanted to share his award with the former skipper Kane Williamson, who scored centuries in both the innings of the match.
“Nah, not at all. He’s got 31 Test hundreds for my one so I’m not giving that one. Any time you contribute to the win it makes you feel special. As long as you’re giving your best, you’re made to feel you belong and it’s driven well by the coaching staff,” said Ravindra after he won the ‘Player of the Match award’
“It feels good in any capacity to contribute to team victory, how difficult it is to be out there for four to five days and get the job done. It’ll rate this knock pretty high because of the time we spent out there and the partnerships we put out there for this win,” he added later.
Notably, Rachin Ravindra came into the limelight when he left the cricketing fraternity awestruck with his sensational batting performances in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
