On 6 September 2023, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and Barbados Royals (BBR) in the 20th match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in Port of Spain. Both teams were looking for a win to strengthen their position in the table. Speaking of the match, BBR skipper, Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bowl first.

While batting first, TKR posted a huge total of 208 runs for six wickets on the board in 20 overs. Their first wicket fell on just 20 runs and after that, Nicholas Pooran came out to bat at the number three position. He and Martin Guptill put up a 56-run partnership for the second wicket. Guptill scored 37 runs off 30 balls.

But, Pooran continued his power-hitting and reached fifty in just 36 balls. Then, he continued to play his shots and notched up the century from just 51 balls. Finally, he scored 102* runs off 53 balls, including five fours and 10 sixes as TKR scored 208 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Kyle Mayers scored only 70 runs off 45 balls, including seven fours and four sixes and they scored 166 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Thus, TKR won the game by 42 runs and Pooran won the Player of the Match award.

During the post-match presentation, he said: “I am happy that I can perform again, Couple of low scores does not mean I am out of form. Today, I got a couple of shots away. I must say thanks Polly. The home crowd deserves that entertainment. It is my responsibility. We both bat together well. A bit of miscommunication, but that 's okay. I knew I had to make up. I had to go all the way. It worked for us. Consistency both on and off the field. I know my team-mates wanted me to perform. I wanted to perform in front of the home crowd. I had to put the ego away and reflect on my failures, and I came it with a different plan. I am just happy that I could contribute and get the two points for the team.”
