Senior batter Shikhar Dhawan is currently leading the team India in the ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Meanwhile, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has recently talked about Dhawan’s possibilities in team India for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Notably, Dhawan was also a part of the team in all matches of the ODI series that concluded recently against England.
Carrying his good run of form with the bat, the 36-year-old played a brilliant knock of 97 runs in the first of the three-match ODI series against West Indies. The Delhi-based senior batter is currently focussing only on the limited-overs format now. He has proved his worth a lot for the team in the absence of the regular opener of the team and Rohit’s deputy KL Rahul.
But Ojha has something else to say about Dhawan while discussing the inclusion of senior players on the squad for the 2023 World Cup.
It is clear that Rohit Sharma wants Shikhar Dhawan - Pragyan Ojha
“I am seeing the right signs. When you look at a senior player, you have to see ki unke saath kya kiya jaa raha hai. He’s in the mix
Later on, Ojha also talked about the opening pair of Dhawan and Rohit. He went on to emphasize the importance of that for team India.
“They have both done a brilliant job together. I think in world cricket, they are third or fourth, and Rohit Sharma believes that if someone is consistently performing or has done really well over the years, you can’t just discard him. Rohit definitely gives you that cushion, and it’s a good thing, kyunki ICC events ki baat karein toh wahan pe thoda experience zaroor chahiye,” he added later.
