Both India and Australia are in full preparation for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. The Men in Blue will look to continue their dominance at home while the Aussies will look to win a Test series in India after 2004/05. However, Steve Smith is going to be a player to watch out for from the Australia camp.
Meanwhile, the visitors avoided any tour or practice game this time around. Instead of that, Australia are currently at the KSCA Stadium on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The stadium is in Alur, around 25 km from the city center of Bengaluru. They are expecting rank turners for the series and hence, the KSCA curators prepared the pitch in such a way that it would turn square as it wears down in this ongoing camp in Alur.
Steve Smith had a great last Border-Gavaskar Trophy for Australia
However, Steve Smith supported the idea of not playing a tour or practice game ahead of the series. While speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Smith said: "The last time we went I'm pretty sure we got served up a green top (to practice on) and it was sort of irrelevant. We're better off having our own nets and getting spinners in and bowling as much as they can. We'll wait and see when we hit the ground. I think we've made the right decision to not play a tour match." Steve Smith had a great last Test series in India in 2016/17.
In that series, he scored 499 runs in eight innings, at an average of 71.28. Smith managed three centuries in that tour in the Indian condition. Now, he came up with a huge claim ahead of the Test series. Steve Smith said that winning the Test series in India is bigger than winning the Ashes series. He said: "If we can win a series in India, that will be bigger than the Ashes series." After such a statement, fans came up and claimed that Australia need to toil hard to win a series in the longest format of the game in India.
Here are some responses from fans over the statement of Steve Smith regarding the Border-Gavaskar Trophy:
This is why Steve Smith is the greatest test batter of this generation. He knows ball 👍
