Indian wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul underwent a long period of absence owing to injury and subsequent rehab. However, the batter made his comeback in the Asia Cup 2023 and has looked in good touch. This is a massive boost for India who are eyeing to win their third ODI World Cup in the next couple of months at home.
India are playing a short three-game ODI series against the mighty Aussies ahead of the mega-event at home. Skipper Rohit Sharma and senior batter and former skipper Virat Kohli have been rested for the first two games of the series. This meant that KL Rahul had to shoulder responsibility as the stand-in skipper.
However, this is not the first time KL Rahul has undertaken the captaincy role. He has been a stand-in skipper many times. Not to forget, he also acts as the skipper of Lucknow Super Giants, a franchise of the coveted Indian Premier League. Here are some marquee personal milestones players achieved playing under Rahul’s captaincy.
Shubman Gill's maiden century
In August 2022’s tour of Zimbabwe, KL Rahul was handed the captaincy baton for the three-game ODI series. Shubman Gill hit his maiden international hundred in the third game as India posted 298/8 on the board in 50 overs.
Ishan Kishan's Maiden double hundred
In 2022’s December tour of Bangladesh, Ishan Kishan scripted history scoring the fastest double hundred in ODIs. His 210 featured 24 fours and 10 sixes. Notably, KL Rahul was given the charge of leading the team that day.
Shubman Gill's maiden Test century
Part of the same tour, Shubman Gill’s maiden Test century was also scored playing under KL Rahul. The milestone came on Day 3 of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram.
Virat Kohli's first international century since 2019
2022’s Bangladesh tour was one laden with centuries. The most special was when Virat Kohli ended his century drought in the third and final ODI in Chattogram. KL Rahul, the skipper does manage to inspire the best out of players.
Shardul Thakur's India's best test bowling figures vs SA
Right after the Bangladesh tour, KL Rahul was also trusted with the South Africa tour. In the second test in Johannesburg, Shardul Thakur scripted history, returning figures of 7/61, the best bowling figures by any Indian bowler against the Proteas.
Kuldeep Yadav's Best bowling Figures in test
The Bangladesh tour also saw Kuldeep Yadav achieve a significant personal milestone. His figures of 5/40 in the first test happen to be his best bowling figures in Tests. KL Rahul’s captaincy sure suits him.
