Amidst all the hype pertaining to the mega auction of the Indian T20 League, several players have already gone on to attract huge bids. Pat Cummins was one of them too.
The Aussie pacer was expected to earn a fortune in this auction. It is to be noted that he was purchased for INR 15.5 crore during the 2020 auction by Kolkata. As a matter of coincidence, they have managed to buy him back. However, this time around they didn't have to go all out.
Cummins bagged an INR 7.25 crore deal on the first day of the mega auction. Taking his stature and reputation into account, it wouldn't be an overstatement to call this a steal deal. It is to be noted that he was slotted in as one of the ten marquee players that set the auction ball rolling.
A bidding war between Gujrat and Kolkata for Cummins saw him finally going back to his former franchise. However, Australian players are all set to miss the first few matches of the 2022 edition. As they are all set to tour Pakistan in March, their all-format is set to end in April.
“We do see the ITL as a really good development opportunity when it fits, but there’s obviously a huge amount of cricket with a series (in Sri Lanka) planned for immediately-post the IPL as well. So it will be about working with the individuals to ensure they’re getting the preparation they need, but we certainly won’t be releasing players to the ITL while Australia are playing," said George Bailey, Australia’s chief selector, during a recent media interaction.
Cummins has been absolutely superb of late. Not only did he lead the Aussies to a spectacular 4-0 win during the Ashes 2021-22, but he was superb with the ball as well. As far as his career in the toughest 20 is concerned, he has 38 wickets at an average and strike rate of 30.13 and 21.95.
Meanwhile, Twitter reacted to Kolkata buying back Cummins for 7.25 crores
Pat Cummins for 7.25 crores is perfect as per his skill-set. Not overpaid like the 16 crore price tag earlier.

KKR now has 5 players:
Venky Iyer
Andre Russell
Sunil Narine
Pat Cummins
Varun Chakravarty
4 of them can bat, all 5 can bowl. Setting up a nice overall core.

Pat Cummins at 7.25 Crs is a steal. Very good if he comes good, can be a real wallet increase in the next auction if he doesn't, also a good captaincy option.

Two brilliant pick ups at excellent prices for KKR at the IPL auctions. Shreyas Iyer and Pat Cummins are steals at their prices and both possible captains.
