India and Pakistan have had their own rivalry due to the political tension between the two countries. This rivalry transcended to cricket as well with both teams giving their all to one-up the other side. Political differences have sadly put a stop to India- Pakistan matches, despite that, the rivalry remains fresh.
In a recent feat of achievement, the Pakistan team has leapfrogged India to number four in the latest ODI rankings. The jump in the Men in Green's ranking is a direct effect of their clean sweep home win against the West Indies. Pakistan won all of their three matches to whitewash the ODI series having done the same in the T20I series earlier.
Their neighbours (India) had a rating of 102 prior to the home series against the West Indies, but a clean sweep earned them four rating points allowing them to jump over India which has 105 points.
The ODI rankings are currently led by New Zealand with 125 ratings and 1505 points in 12 matches. England with 124 ratings and 2353 points in 19 matches trail the Kiwis in second. Australia with 107 ratings and 1929 points in 18 matches completes the podium. India currently languishes at fifth with a 105 rating and 2304 points in 22 matches.
Pakistan are currently in a rich reign of form in limited-overs cricket. Their last ODI series against Zimbabwe, South Africa, Australia and now West Indies have all been won by the Pakistan team. Men in Green last lost a series to England in July last year. One player that gets most of the credit for Pakistan's recent victories is their captain Babar Azam. Besides, the Pakistan skipper has himself been in brilliant form. Besides, Azam was superb in the recently concluded one-day series against the men in maroon as well.
The right-handed batter is currently in the form of his life. The 27-year-old recently became the only player to make three consecutive centuries twice! Pakistan are slated to play a three-match ODI series against the Netherlands starting on 16th August.
