Pakistan opening batter Imam-ul-Haq has claimed that his national side has the right balance ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. The Green Brigade will play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan starting on August 22. After the series, the team will participate in the Asia Cup which will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, ahead of the series, Haq has said that playing India and against India can be a life-changing experience.

"Playing against India and playing in India can be life-changing. Our ODI team is very, very good and we have a balanced team. I don't think we could have had a better team, everyone knows his role in the team. We know our fans are expecting a lot from us, our ODI team is the best".

I don't want my parents to watch me play inside a stadium; Imam-ul-Haq

The left-hander also touched upon being 'labeled' as a player playing for the national side because his uncle and former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq was a chief selector previously. Notably, the former has been repeatedly called 'parchi' a term used for a player who is alleged to playing for the team due to references from influential people.

“My parents want to watch me play, but they have not seen me play at a venue even once. Even I don’t want them to. I don’t want my mother hear someone utter parchi when I am fielding on the boundary. All this is normal to me. Whenever I am dismissed cheaply, they will not look at what I have achieved in my past but simply utter parchi. I do not want my family to be exposed to that.

“The first time my sister watched me play was in 2022, when both West Indies (ODIs) and England (a Test match) played at Multan. By then I was a senior member of the side. The fact that my family could not attend the matches was a mental torture for me,” Haq said in a podcast with Daniyal Sheikh.
