India's all-format skipper Rohit Sharma joined the team a day ahead of the first T20I against England, which is set to take place on July 7. He was supposed to lead his side in the fifth Test match against the Poms. In his absence, the hosts won by a big margin. Sharma missed out on the game due to COVID 19 as he had tested positive six days ahead of the game.

As he wasn't playing this rescheduled Test, the Asian side had to appoint Jasprit Bumrah as the skipper of the team. This is the first time the pacer led a team in any form of the game. The team lost the game as they felt the absence of Rohit as a player and captain.

The world number two Test side lost the game by seven wickets as they failed to defend the target of 378. The loss meant that the team lost the opportunity to win a Test series in the U.K. Since 2007, India has played four series including the recently concluded one. In those series, they have managed to win only four games collectively.

Notably, this is the first time since 2002 when India have levelled the series in England. Meanwhile, the team is meant to play the three-match T20I and ODI series starting on July 7. The 35-year-old has recovered from COVID 19 and started to practice in the last few days. He is set to lead the team in the first game where the second-string players will play.

For the unversed, the first-choice players will be rested as some of them were playing the Test match on July 5. These players will join the team ahead of the second game on July 9. Meanwhile, the fans have trolled the Mumbaikar and have said that there is no use of playing after missing out on the Test match.

The team will be looking to get a winning start against one of the best white-ball teams.
