The two African teams South Africa and Zimbabwe were supposed to lock horns in the 18th match of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. It was played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The rain happened to play a spoilsport from the very beginning and the match was reduced to the nine-overs per team. Zimbabwean skipper Craig Ervine won the toss and elected to bat first.
Batting first, Zimbabwe managed to post a total of 79 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 9 overs. Before the South African innings would start, rain gods played a villain once again. And, now the match was reduced to seven overs, and South Africa now had a revised target of 64 runs.
South African team was comfortably heading towards the win as the senior wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock played a swashbuckling knock of 47 runs off just 18 balls with eight amazing boundaries and a maximum. He was going ahead like a lone warrior.
The proteas team had scored 51 runs in just three overs. At this moment, they needed only 13 runs from the next four overs. But there’s a saying that ‘some fortunes never change and so does the fortune of South Africa with the rain. It came hard this time and the match was called off without any result.
Eventually, South Africa who was comfortably winning this match had to share the points with Zimbabwe as the match fell prey to the villain of rain.
The cricket fans were also disappointed, and they felt literally sorry for the South African team. They took to Twitter to extend their empathy with Temba Bavuma’s men and the South African team’s never-ending misfortune with the rain from decades ago in the ODI World Cup 1992 till now.
Here’s how fans reacted to South Africa vs Zimbabwe called-off match:

The stop-start nature of the game comes to an end as rain has the final say, despite our best efforts to chase down the target.#ZIMvSA #T20WorldCup #BePartOfIt pic.twitter.com/8JbCj342f0

SA loses point against Zimbabwe, shared 1 each.
It will mean PakvsSA is must win match for both teams.Because even if SA wins against India but loses against Pak & Ind-Pak both win their other matches, SA will be out without even NRR.#ZIMvsSA https://t.co/YQUDaKiq8E

SA looked more interested in 1 point instead of 2... As if they were not interested to win #T20WorldCup2022, they let Zimbabwe to deliberately delay the game and no one objected neither the cap nor the SA mngmnt... 3 more balls and SA could have won #ZIMvsSA @ICC @ProteasMenCSA

We need seniour players like Willo who can speak up. It was a disgrace. Everyone slipping about and one important player injured already. Any other team would have complained and gone off earlier. Hopefully our batting will improve as the tournament continues #zimvsSA

This result would make #Pakistan happy, #India happier, #SouthAfrica agonised. The PAK v SA virtually becomes a knock out game for both while India might afford a loss v SA but still qualify #T20WorldCup #SAvsZIM #ZIMvsSA #ZIMvSA #SAvZIM
