In the game, the 2017 Champions Trophy winner won the toss and elected to bat first. He confirmed at the toss that all of the 15 playing members would play this game. The team had a poor start as Imam-ul-Haq (1) was caught behind by Tom Latham off Matt Henry.

Abdullah Shafique (14) couldn't do much either as he got stumped by Lathan off Mitchell Santner. Azam played a good innings of 80 off 84 balls including eight fours and two sixes. Saud Shakeel has also been given an opportunity after the third ODI against Afghanistan last month.

Hope we come back after winning the title: Babar Azam

Meanwhile, Pakistan is searching for their second ODI World Cup title. Overall, their last mega event win was the Champions Trophy 2017, beating the then-defending champions, India. Since then, the Green Brigade has been searching for a global title.

โ€œI hope we come back with a trophy this time. The top four is a small goal for us. We want to come out as winners. We did not have enough time to put together a camp before the World Cup because we had been playing for too long continuously. We wanted to give the players a break so they come back refreshed and with the hunger to win. You play well when you have that hunger.โ€
