England and Pakistan faced off in the first test of the three-match series on December 1, Thursday and on the fourth day, the latter were tasked to chase down a massive total of 343. At the end of Day 4, Pakistan remained at 80/2 chasing the mammoth total, however, they lost their skipper Babar Azam for just 4 runs.

To add more, it was a record-breaking Day 1 for Ben Stokes’ men as they scored a massive 506 runs for the loss of 4 wickets on the back of centuries from Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Harry Brook and Ollie Pope. It was a batting pitch and the bowlers struggled to pick up wickets at regular intervals.

Eventually, the English side were bowled out after scoring 657 runs in the first innings. Post that, it was all about Pakistan as Babar and his men managed to gather 579 runs, courtesy of a 200-run opening stand between Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique. Eventually, skipper Babar scored 136 runs to his name and roared back to form, sending alarm bells to all bowlers around the world.

Eventually, the pitch wore out on the third day and the English team declared after putting on 264/7 in the second innings, setting a target of over 300 for the Pakistan team on the fourth day. However, it was a disappointment for the Pakistani fans as they lost their skipper at the end of the day.

Although one has to agree that Babar’s men could chase down the total if they refrain from losing wickets, the English bowlers were brimming with confidence while defending the total and it looked like Pakistan might as well lose the game on the final day.

If at all Babar and his men lose the game, it would be a morale-hitting one for the team as they earlier lost to England in the seven-match T20I series and then at the finals of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. As things stand, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Babar Azam’s innings:
