Following an embarrassing defeat of 10 wickets against England in the second semi-final against England, Rohit Sharma-led team India is on the receiving end of some harsh criticism and hard and fast-lined remarks from the Indian fans. The 73-year-old former legend went on to say that the Indian cricketing circle might see some retirements following this elimination of team India from the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

“Having won the Indian Premier League on his first assignment as the captain, they would have marked Hardik Pandya out as the next captain. Hardik Pandya will definitely take over the team in the future and there will be some retirements, you never know,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports during the post-match show.

The comments from the former skipper have left the Indian fans divided into multiple opinions and reactions over the same. Some of the Indian fans stood up and agreed with the former World Cup winner batter’s statements. On the other hand, some of the fans happened to disagree and came up with different opinions. Fans took to Twitter just after the statement from Gavaskar.

Here’s how fans reacted to Sunil Gavaskar's statement on India's future roadmap:

Speaking of India’s journey in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup, the men in blue made it to the semi-finals of the tournament after finishing the super-12 round at the top spot in the points table. The star opening duo of Alex Hales and English skipper Jos Buttler completely outmuscled the Indian bowling attack to win the match comfortably by 10 wickets.

Notably, the next 20-20 World Cup is scheduled to be played after two years in 2024 and most of the players are approaching the age of 40. So, it might be assumed that some of the retirements are on the way within the next few months or after a few bilateral assignments in white-ball cricket.
