Team India announced the squad for the upcoming five-match home T20 series against South Africa on Sunday. Senior players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah to name a few have all been rested for the series. In Rohit Sharma’s absence, KL Rahul will lead the side, while Rishabh Pant will assume the vice-captaincy duties.
A lot of young talents have been given the opportunity to showcase their talent on the big stage. Fast bowlers such as Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh have received maiden call-ups. The duo will share the fast bowling duties alongside Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav both have held on to their places in the T20 squad as well, while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have made the cut as openers. Add to that, Hardik Pandya, who was sidelined due to injury, returns to the squad and veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik, too, has made his way back into the team.
Amidst all the selections, there are some players who have been ignored but are doing quite well in the domestic cricket and in the Indian T20 League and Nitish Rana is, certainly, one of them.
Nitish Rana has been a prolific run-scorer for Kolkata, over the years, in the Indian T20 League. Rana wasn’t as consistent as he would have liked this season but played a few notable knocks with he bat. He batted at a strike rate of 143.82 and scored 361 runs in 14 matches.
The 28-year-old wasn’t included in the squad for the T20 series against South Africa and he wasn’t too pleased with that. Later, he also posted a heartfelt Tweet expressing his disappointment over his exclusion from the squad.
Things will change soon 🇮🇳🧿
