India’s campaign ended with England winning the knockout game on November 10, Thursday and the Three Lions eventually went on to win the 20-20 World Cup 2022 after beating Pakistan in the finals on Sunday.
After the humbling defeat, a fresh Indian team will tour New Zealand to take part in a three-match T20I series set to get underway on November 18 and they will play as many ODIs post the conclusion of the T20I series. As things stand, we decided to handpick three players who might not get an opportunity in the series.
Here are three team India players who might not get an opportunity in the series:
1) Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda made it to the Indian squad on the back of stupendous performances in the Indian T20 Leagues and in the domestic arena. However, ever since he scored his first century in the T20I series against Ireland in June, the allrounder has not been able to emulate the same energy on the field.
In the 20-20 World Cup 2022, Hooda got only one opportunity and eventually, the batter got out for a duck in the match against South Africa, disappointing the team management and the fans. The allrounder might eventually be dropped from the playing XI in the New Zealand T20I series as well.
2) Kuldeep Yadav
The Indian spinner last played a T20I in August against West Indies and the journey has been inconsistent for the two-time ODI hat-trick star. The bowler, who has played only 6 T20Is since 2020, has gathered 7 wickets so far and in 2022, the left-arm wrist spinner has racked up 3 wickets at an economy of around 4.
With not many wickets under his belt, he is highly likely to get snubbed from the playing XI in all three matches. With Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar in the squad, Yadav might have to sit out for the entire series.
3) Mohammad Siraj
Umran Malik, India’s only pacer who can clock 150+ in the speedometer, is all set to make a comeback in the T20I and ODI series against New Zealand. With him coming back, Mohammad Siraj, who has been impressive so far, might have to make way for the youngster.
While Arshdeep Singh, who had an impressive outing in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, will continue with his stint with the Indian team, Harshal Patel, who did not get an opportunity in the showpiece event, might be preferred over Siraj in the series.
